Welcome to the West Midlands Public Service Skills Team

Training #1

The aim of the Public Service Skills Team is to ensure the Public Service Sector is an employer of first choice.

The Learning and Skills Council recognises the significant impact the sector has on our economy and has prioritised the Public Service sector as a key area for growth.

The work with the Public Sector began with the establishment of the Public Service Compact in January 2003. Initially the Compact made up of 12 members aimed to bring together employers across the Public Service sector to form a  collaborative approach to the key issues of recruitment, retention and staff development. By 2007, the Compact had 30 members with a combined workforce of over 100,000 employers.

Then in the autumn of 2007, the Skills Challenge was launched, which further targeted Public Sector employers in the region. For more information on this, see Skills Challenge page on Website.

To support employers with the Challenge, a Public Service Skills Team and a range of resources have been developed.
